Preferences (settings) explained
What each section of the Preferences page does.
Open Preferences with ⋮ › Preferences, Ctrl+,
, or by typing !settings in the address bar.
Changes save as you make them. If a yellow bar says You need to restart to apply these changes., close and reopen Aetherium.

| Content Blocking | How many ads and trackers were blocked; allow all, block third-party (default) or block all; sites where ads are allowed; Customize filters; block scripts or images; buttons for Site settings and Clear browsing data. See Privacy. |
| Appearance | Enable dark mode (Never, At night, Always, Follow system theme); Browser style (Neon, Classic and eight more); Enable site theme (tabs take the site's colour); Show divider between tabs; Language (restart needed). |
| Additional Features | When Aetherium starts (re-open previous tabs, move them to a background task, or start a blank task); In new windows; user scripts; Play music when Aetherium starts and its Volume; Automatically check for updates; Use separate title bar; Open new tabs in the foreground; a custom user agent; Enable Autoplay. |
| Search Engine | DuckDuckGo, Google, Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, StartPage, Ecosia, Qwant, Wikipedia, Yandex, Brave, or a custom one

| Password Auto-Fill | Built-in, VaultPass, Bitwarden, 1Password or none; View saved passwords. See Passwords. |
| Sleeping tabs | Turn sleeping tabs on or off and set Sleep after (minutes). See Tabs. |
| Playwright and test tools | Let Playwright or Puppeteer control Aetherium on port 9222 (this computer only, restart needed). See Developer tools. |
| Import bookmarks and history | Opens the import window. |
| Extensions | Manage extensions. See Extensions. |
| Page Reply Bot | Set up automatic replies for a business's Facebook Page, Instagram, website chat or Gmail. |
| Proxy | No proxy, manual rules, or an automatic configuration URL. |
| Keyboard Shortcuts | Change any shortcut; separate several with commas (restart needed). See Keyboard shortcuts. |
| Custom Commands | Make your own address-bar commands: a phrase, a description and the address it opens. |
Tip
Some settings live elsewhere: profile colour, dark mode and style are also in the profile menu;
the agent has its own settings (the gear in the agent panel); and Sync has its own panel.
