How Aetherium tells you about a new version
About 30 seconds after you start Aetherium, and then once a day, it asks this website whether a newer version is out. It sends only its version number, your operating system and processor type, nothing about you or your browsing.
When there is a new version:
- A blue Update button appears in the toolbar, to the left of the agent button. It is red when the new version fixes a security problem.
- An empty new tab also shows A new version of Aetherium is available with a link to the release notes.
Install an update
- Click the Update button. A window tells you the new version number and what it is about.
- Press Download. The installer downloads in the download bar at the bottom of the window. (Press What's new to read the release notes first, or Later to decide another time.)
- Close Aetherium, then open the installer you downloaded. Your tabs, passwords, bookmarks and settings are kept.
Check right now
Click the ⋮ menu button at the right end of the toolbar and choose Help › Check for Updates…. Aetherium either offers the new version or says Aetherium is up to date.
Turn automatic checks off
Open Preferences (⋮ › Preferences, or Ctrl+, ) and untick Automatically check for updates under Additional Features. Check for Updates… in the menu still works when you want it.
Tip
Every version and its notes are listed on the Versions page.
